British actor Sir Ben Kingsley will be honoured with this year’s Golden Icon award for lifetime achievement at the 2022 Zurich International Film Festival.
Kingsley will attend Zurich and present his latest film, Dalíland, in which he played the Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí.
Kingsley’s performance as Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s 1982 period epic earned him the Best Actor Oscar, and he received three more Academy Award nominations for Bugsy (1991), Sexy beast (2000) and The House of Sand and Mist (2003).
His scope and versatility as an actor have seen him play roles as diverse as Itzhak Stern, Oskar Schindler’s accountant in Schindler’s List (1993), to the evil hacker Cosmo in the 1992 horror film.
Kingsley will personally receive the Golden Icon award in Zurich on September 22 and hold a talk on ZFF Masters on September 29.
“I am a storyteller, nothing more, nothing less. So I’m touched that Zurich should see fit to honour me for this, my simple, ancient craft,” Kingsley said in a statement.
