Former Real Madrid Head Coach, Rafael Benítez has rubbished the claim that he tried to teach Cristiano Ronaldo the art of freekick taking during their time together at the Spanish capital, Allnews.ng reports.
Earlier in his career, 'CR7' was more dreaded at set-pieces, but not anymore, as he has not had much luck for some years now.
"That's a lie. At no time did I tell him how he had to take them," Benitez, who spent just seven months as Madrid boss told Marca.
"The only conversation I had with Cristiano about free-kicks was in Australia, during pre-season. I told him we had analysed, together with my goalkeeper coach, the free-kicks he took when he was at Manchester United and the trajectory of the ball in relation to the position of the wall.
"Our idea then, as Liverpool coaches, was to try to counter their [United's] free-kicks. But that's it. At no time, as coach of Madrid, did I tell CR7 how free-kicks should be taken."
On his career as a chief trainer of Dalian Professional in China, the Spaniard is pleased that there is no pressure to fight for titles.
"I have a project where winning titles isn't demanded, but there's a need for us to improve things and leave a legacy behind, which we can do."
