Benue Assembly Begins Recess To Resume November

Benue State House of Assembly has proceeded on a one-month recess to mark the end of the first sitting of the fourth legislative Session.

The House took the decision on Wednesday, following a motion by the Majority Leader, Hon Damian Cheme calling on the House to proceed on recess having exhausted the first sitting of the fourth legislative session which commenced on June 1. 2022.

The Deputy Speaker of the 9th Benue Assembly, Hon Christopher Adaji who presided over Wednesday's plenary in his Speech commended Honourable members and Staff of the Assembly for their cooperation and input and urged His colleagues to use the recess period to interact more closely with their Constituents.

Adaji urged them to engage in issue-based campaigns, devoid of insults, violence and other anti-democratic practices.

He stressed that the House has within the period maintained an excellent record of high impact legislative output,  noting that the house within the first sitting of the fourth legislative session passed one Executive Bill and voted on forty-four Bills seeking the fifth Alteration of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999.

He added that the House also received three  committee reports and conclusively deliberated on two of the reports, while three substantive Motions received were equally treated as well as the adoption of nine resolutions which has a direct impact on the Benue people.

A bill for a law to Establish the Benue State Statistical System and the Bureau of Statistics for Collection, Compilation, Analysis, Storage and Dissemination of Statistical Data, Information and Other Related Matters was also passed into law during Wednesday's plenary.

Also, a debate was done on the report of the House Standing Committee on Public Petitions, Bills Review and Appraisal on a petition by Moses Oinu titled: "Petition against the removal of my name from Teacher's payroll since July 2008, and refusal of the Benue State Universal Education Board to effect changes despite repeated appeals; a call for redress".

The House, therefore, proceeded on recess today October 5, 2022, to reconvene on November 1st, 2022 for the second sitting of the fourth legislative session.
