Benue: Lassa Fever Kills WHO Doctor

A medical doctor identified as Samuel Nyityo have died of Lassa fever in Benue State.

According to reports, the medical doctor, who was working with the World Health Organisation (WHO) was diagnosed with Lassa fever and was rushed to an hospital before he died on Sunday.

Professor Joseph Ngbea, the state Commissioner for Health and Human Services confirmed that the death of the Doctor.

“The medical doctor was diagnosed with Lassa fever a few days ago and when there was no dialysis at the teaching hospital, we quickly sent him to Irrua in Edo State, where he died on Sunday," he said.

He added that the government had begun contact tracing of those who likely had contact with the victim.

He added that the emergency unit has devised an action plan to go into the houses of two patients to get those who had contacts with them as well as to find out whether the houses harbour rodents.
