Hard times awaits operators of illegal produce inspection checkpoints in Benue State as the Board of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) has given the Executive Chairman of the service, Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, the nod to clamp down on all illegal checkpoints using every security measure.

The board gave the nod during her second quarter meeting at the headquarters of the service on Tuesday in Makurdi.

The members who decried the unabating activities of illegal checkpoint operators and its ravaging effect on the economy of the state hailed the Executive Chairman for her unrelenting fight against the menace.

The Board also commended the Chairman's efforts to stamp out fake PoS receipts used in short-changing unsuspecting tax payers.

Speaking on behalf of the Board members, Emmanuel Nyiyongo, said there was every need to support the Chairman in the fight by bringing in all the security agents in the state for a combined operation to flush out the criminals and restore sanity on the roads.

Nyiyongo added that apart from the extortion and harassment of traders and motorists on the highways, the activities of the criminals is giving the state a bad image and leads to the boycott of Benue markets.

She further added that the enforcement unit of the service was recently rejigged for effective operation.
