BIRS boss giving details of the intercept
The Executive Chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mimi Adzape-Orubibi has intercepted ten trucks with various farm produce for evading tax while attempting to exit the state.
The operation led by the Executive Chairman during the early hours of 1:00 am to 5:30 am arrested the evading trucks and marketers.
The Chairman, while reacting to the shocking discoveries, expressed deep concern as to how some of the intercepted trucks that loaded from Ihugh and Lessel communities in Benue were able to beat all the BIRS Inspection and monitoring points manned by staff and consultants and were at the verge of exit from the state.
She added that the intercepted trucks would have succeeded in evading tax to the tune of over Five Hundred Thousand Naira (500,000.00) if not for the swift response. Adding that over 20 other trucks had escaped before the arrival of the police.
Orubibi assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out to fish out the collaborators while the trucks would be made to pay the due taxes and penalty charges before being released.
The intercepted trucks were all moved to the headquarters of the service.
