Benue State: Catholic Priest Kidnapped By Gunmen

 

Reverend Father David Echioda, a Catholic priest, has been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Otukpo, Benue State.

It was gathered that the priest was abducted along the Alla-Akpa Road on his way back from Sunday Mass at Utonkon, in the Ado Local Government Area, Benue State.

Director of Information, Catholic Diocese, Otukpo, Reverend Father John Okopopu, confirmed the incident, stating that he was on his way back from a ministerial job when the abduction happened.

He said, “It is true, he was returning from Alla-Akpa road when he was kidnapped. Unfortunately, the people (abductors) are yet to contact the family or anyone."

And in a confirmation report to the media, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, said, “Yes, I am confirming the kidnap of the priest,” without adding any more details about the incident.
