A Tiv group, Jechira has launched the 2023 governorship campaign in Benue State, North-Central Nigeria AllNews reports.
Campaign Convener Comrade Dan Nyikwagh, (The Man Dan), said the campaign was to woo other political groups to support the people of Jechira to produce the next governor of 'the Food Basket of the Nation'. This, according to The Nation.
Tagged: “Jechira2023”, Nyikwagh, who is also the Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Youth Affairs said the group is a non-political organisation.
According to him, all other groups and intermediate areas in the state have occupied Government House, Makurdi except Jechira and there is a need to persuade critical stakeholders to key into the campaign.
The traditional ruler of Jechira, Chief J .C.Uganden in council, praised the group for the initiative and urged them to go about the agitation and consultations peacefully.
Jechira is a group of Tiv indigenous people, spread over Vandeikya and Konshisha local governments in Benue Northeast senatorial zone.
Jechira and Kwande are both laying claims to the 2023 Benue governorship seat, apart from Idoma people of Benue South who have not ruled the state since creation from Plateau State in 1976.
