The Vice Chancellor of the Benue State University, Makurdi, Prof. Tor Joe Iorapuu has charged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing strike.
Iorapuu made the appeal on Monday at the Good Shepherd Catholic Chaplaincy, Benue State University, Makurdi, during a thanksgiving Mass for his birthday celebration.
The VC stated that being a Vice Chancellor of a functional university where students and staff would be part of the celebration of his birthday would have made him happier.
He stated that education is the most productive system in society but the strike action will tend to make it less.
Speaking at the reception at their Makurdi residence, the wife of the celebrant, Dr Mrs Nnena Iorapuu said her husband never wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday but felt it was worth it, thanking all those who came to honour the event.
