Four Nigerian singers — Burna Boy, Tems, Asake and Ayra Starr — have secured nominations in the upcoming 2023 edition of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
Burna Boy secured an impressive four nominations in the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist category, the ‘Last Last’ crooner will go head-to-head with renowned international acts such as Chris Brown, Drake, The Weeknd, and Usher.
Furthermore, Burna Boy's exceptional work as a video director for the captivating visual representation of his hit single ‘Last Last’ has earned him a nomination in the Video Director of the Year category, where he will be competing against notable figures like ASAP Rocky, Dave Free & Kendrick Lamar, and Director X.
The African giant garnered two more nominations in the Viewer’s Choice category for the track ‘Last Last’, as well as in the prestigious Best International Act category.
Following closely behind, fellow Grammy winner Tems received three nominations, including her inclusion in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category.
Additionally, she shares nominations with Future and Drake for their collaboration on the track ‘Wait for You’, which is recognized in both the Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice categories.
Celebrated singers Asake and Ayra Starr have also secured nominations.
Asake will be vying for the Viewer’s Choice award and Best New International Act category, while Ayra Starr will join Burna Boy in the highly competitive Best International Act category.
With the aforementioned stars getting nominations, it wouldn't be too bold to say that fans can expect wins from them as they continue beaming the much-needed illumination on Nigeria and the African continent.
