Biafra: IPOB's Lawyer Reacts To Obasanjo - Buhari Govt Discord

Biafra: IPOB's Lawyer Reacts To Obasanjo - Buhari Govt Disco

Amid the disagreement between former president, Olusegun Obasanjo and President Muhammadu Buhari's government, a lawyer to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, says the secession and sovereignty of Eastern Nigeria is "the answer", AllNews reports.

Recall that the Nigerian government said on Sunday in a stern reply to Obasanjo's recent rebuke of Buhari's administration as heading the country towards failure that 'Buhari prevented Nigeria from failing'.

The current Presidency said contrary to the erstwhile president's claim, Nigeria was on its way down the slope after 16 years of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) rule before Buhari ascended to power and brought the country back from the brink.

Obasanjo had on Thursday said Nigeria was slowly becoming a failed state and a basket case that urgently needed to be pulled from the brink of collapse.

Reacting to the continuous discord between the two generals, Ejiofor via his known Twitter handle on Tuesday maintains that Nigeria is "founded on fraud".

Leading Pro-Biafra group, IPOB

The main aim of the proscribed group Ejiofor represents, IPOB, is to restore an independent state of Biafra in the former Eastern Region of Nigeria through an independence referendum.

The group was founded in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu, a political activist known for his prominent advocacy of the contemporary Biafran independence movement.

Supporters of IPOB primarily include people from the Igbo, Anang, Igbanke, Igala, and Idoma ethnic groups within the former territory of Biafra.

IPOB has criticized the Nigerian government for its poor investment, inequitable resource distribution, ethnic marginalization, and heavy military presence in the Biafran region.

The organization rose to prominence in the mid-2010s and is now the largest Biafran independence organization - by membership.

In recent years, it has gained significant media attention for becoming a frequent target of political crackdowns by the Nigerian government.
