Biafra: IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Provides 'Update' On Referendum

Biafra: IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Provides 'Update' On Referendum

Political Activist, Nnamdi Kanu, says Easterners' demand for a Biafran Referendum is "drawing closer".

Kanu, the diaspora-based leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) claimed that the only thing left to achieve Biafra is 'the hour destiny'.

"Our demand for a #referendum is now drawing closer to the point of moving on to urgent considerations of other options to restore #Biafra," Kanu wrote on his known Twitter handle on Saturday.

"Our people are ready. We have the means and wherewithal.

"What remains is the hour - the hour of reclaiming our manifest destiny, unilaterally."

IPOB proponents and the Biafran Referendum wish

IPOB's main aim is to restore an independent state of Biafra in the former Eastern Region of Nigeria through an independence referendum.

After the UK’s ‘Brexit’ vote in 2016, pro-Biafra activists launched ‘Biafraexit’ on social networking service, Twitter, in the style of ‘Brexit’ for a referendum to exit Nigeria.

AllNews understands that IPOB is demanding separation from Nigeria via a peaceful referendum, as according to them, they have no cultural, religious or social similarities between them and the rest of the West African nation's union.

Referendum as has been repeatedly conducted in the past in Nigeria, Biafra agitators insist, is now required urgently to ascertain if the indigenous populations of the eastern region still want to be part of Nigeria or become a separate entity.
