Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu, Nigerian Separatist Leader, Blasts Channels TV Journalist Maupe Ogun (Audio)

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu, Nigerian Separatist Leader, Blasts Cha

Nnamdi Kanu, a British Nigerian Biafra political activist has branded On-Air Personality, Maupe Ogun-Yusuf "a Fulanised journalist", following his review of a July 2018 interview the Channels TV presenter had with the-then National Organizing Chairman of the Middle Belt Summit, Obadiah Mailafia.

Ogun had on Channels TV's HardCopy aired at the time explained to Mailafia, a one-time Deputy-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that Fulani people are also victims of violence in Northern Nigeria regions.

She mentioned instances in Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states. Mailafia did disagree with her though, saying "it is the Fulanis killing indigenous Hausa people".

During his routine online broadcast on Tuesday, Kanu, the diaspora-based leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) severely criticised Ogun, describing her as a "half-baked journalist".

The broadcast was monitored by this reporter.

"You see that wretched girl at Channels TV. That stupid girl. I don't know what they call that idiot.

"The one that interviewed Senator Abaribe [Enyinnaya] the other day [on February 15, 2021]."

He added: "This girl at Channels TV is defending Fulani Janjaweedism. Because they give her money.

"Maybe one of them has taken her to Dubai to do shopping.

"She is the main anchor...Maupe, or whatever her name is, on Channels TV. One of those doing the bidding of Fulani Janjaweeds.

"She is trying to justify the killing of human beings by saying the Fulanis should be excused."

What's it with Fulanis?

Some Fulani communities in Nigeria have accused media practitioners and organisations of stereotyping them. The stereotype soared recently owing to the herdsmen crisis.

The Fulani have been accused of rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder in parts of Nigeria.

Earlier this year, Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State was constrained to issue an ultimatum that all occupants of Ondo State forest reserves who are predominantly herdsmen grazing their cattle should register with the State Government or vacate the forests, which have been identified as the hotbed of criminal activities in the State, and indeed, in forests in most other States.

Likewise, a car salesman, Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho emerged as a controversial national figure in this increasingly tension-soaring matter.

Sunday Igboho demanded that the Fulani herders, from northern Nigeria, should leave the south-west, seen as the home of the Yoruba ethnic group, for all their alleged crimes.

What is pro-Biafra group, IPOB fighting for?

IPOB  is a Biafran separatist organization in Nigeria. Its main aim is to restore an independent state of Biafra in the South East of Nigeria through an independence referendum.

The group was founded in 2012 by Kanu, known for his prominent advocacy of the contemporary Biafran independence movement.

Supporters of IPOB are exclusively Igbo.

IPOB has criticized the Nigerian federal government for its poor investment, inequitable resource distribution, ethnic marginalization, and heavy military presence in the Biafran region.

The organization rose to prominence in the mid-2010s and is believed to now be the largest Biafran independence organization by membership.

In recent years, it has gained significant media attention for becoming a frequent target of crackdowns by the Nigerian government.
