Biafra Restoration Not Anchored On Senseless Killings - Uche Mefor

Biafra Restoration Not Anchored On Senseless Killings - Uche

Uche Mefor, the estranged Deputy-Leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reasserted that the agitation to achieve a Biafra nation is not tied to violence.

One of the reasons Mefor’s relationship with IPOB Leader, Kanu, hit the rocks was because he disagreed with Kanu on the modus operandi of the organization.

While Kanu doesn't mind causing mayhem in Nigeria, Mefor asked him to take it easy.

Mefor via his known Twitter handle on Monday stated that the campaign for the actualisation of a Biafra state “mustn’t be allowed to see corruption”.

“This project mustn't be allowed to see corruption,” Mefor wrote.

“We reassert and further state that Biafra Restoration is anchored on international human rights law and not on brigandage, senseless killings and violence.”

Background

Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB has been repeatedly accused of violence and unprovoked killings since its establishment in 2012.

Recently, a member of the Hausa community in Imo state revealed that three northerners were killed in Orlu town while the fourth person was attacked in Umuaka Njaba Local Government Area.

He accused the Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives of carrying out both attacks.

ESN is a vigilante group created by diaspora-based Nnamdi Kanu in December 2020.

“They (gunmen) opened fire on three Suya sellers in Orlu and another one in Umuaka Njaba. Those killed didn’t do anything to them. The ESN men just stormed their shops and killed them.

“Enough of these senseless killing of innocent souls by IPOB security operatives. Even the police are not helping the matter; it seems they can’t do anything to these people.

“They (police) gave us a car in which we took their bodies and buried them. Since then, we haven’t heard anything from them,” the source said.

Similarly, a few days ago, the Nigerian police arrested sixteen militants of IPOB/ESN for alleged complicity in a series of violent attacks on security operatives and facilities in some states in Southeast Nigeria.
