Biafra: Why Nigeria Is A Failure - IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, a Biafra political activist, and leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group canvassing for the secession and sovereignty of Eastern Nigeria, has asserted that the West African country is "a failure" because it 'lacks shared language, religion, culture, social values, symbols, folklore, mythology, etc', AllNews reports.

Self-exiled Kanu made this submission on his known Twitter handle on Monday.

Controversial Kanu is calling for Biafran independence through a referendum.

Outlawed IPOB that he leads believes an independent region will resolve the issue of the marginalization of the Igbos. They also want to bring the non-Igbo, oil-rich Niger Delta into the breakaway state. They insist it was part of the original Biafra (that existed from May 1967 to January 1970).

Top Igbo politicians recently rejected calls for Biafra but stressed the need for fairness and equality.

Though for some, these leaders are the problem, entrenched in the corruption that plagues Nigerian politics.

Kanu, 52, has called on his followers to boycott upcoming local and national elections.
