#BiafraExit: Nnamdi Kanu's Counsel Insists Self Determination Is Lawful

#BiafraExit: Nnamdi Kanu's Counsel Insists Self Determinatio

The Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu and the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, has asserted that "self-determination" is lawful.

AllNews understands that the now-banned IPOB group wants a Biafra nation.

The plan for a Biafra state is not new.

In 1967, Igbo leaders declared a Biafran state, but after a brutal civil war, which led to the deaths of up to a million people, the secessionist rebellion was defeated.

Self-exiled Kanu is the latest in a line of ethnic Igbo activists taking up the cause of pushing for an independent state, saying the Igbos have been marginalised by successive Nigerian governments.

The Nigerian government is averse to IPOB's demand though, saying the nation is indivisible.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Kanu's legal representative Ejimakor maintains that their struggle is non-criminal.
