'Biafrans Don't Want Grazing Reserves' - Kanu

Kanunta Kanu, younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), says people of Eastern Nigeria do not need grazing reserves in their states.

Kanu vowed that the security arm of IPOB, Eastern Security Network (ESN), "will stop every grazing reserve in our land".

AllNews recalls that in a statement on Thursday which was signed by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian leader approved recommendations of a committee for the review of 368 grazing reserves in 25 states.

This follows Buhari's approval of the recommendations of a committee chaired by his Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari.

Among others, the committee had recommended stakeholder engagements and sensitization.

The committee also recommended production of maps and geo-mapping/tagging of sites, analysis of findings and report preparations as well as design appropriate communication on Grazing Reserves and operations.

The number of the Grazing Reserves and States were deduced from considerations of existing security concerns and other pre-existing socio-economic conditions.

Buhari directed that the assignment be undertaken with dispatch to bring more understanding on the Grazing Reserves, and implementation.

Among its Terms of Reference, the Committee was to collate from states and confirm the status of all Grazing Reserves, assess the percentage of available land and those with existing encroachment complications for case-by-case resolution in partnership with state governments and the FCT.

The committee is also expected to make recommendations for review of ungazetted Grazing Reserves and create a database of National Cattle Herders and ensure that Grazing Reserves are well communicated to all stakeholders.

But reacting, Kanu Jr. is averse to the idea.

"@UKParliament @FCDOGovUK @UN @EU_Commission. The nastiness of #Fulanigovernment of #Nigeria should come to an end now. #Biafrans doesn't want #Grazingreserve in #Biafraland. This Fulani gangsterism is getting out of hand. #ESN will stop every grazing reserve in our land. Watch Afghanistan," Kanu wrote on his known Twitter handle on Friday.
