Biden Offers Support, Welcomes NATO Bids Of Finland, Sweden

The U.S. president has welcomed the applications of Finland and Sweden to join NATO and pledged support for the two countries.

The Daily Sabah reported late Wednesday that President Joe Biden said in a statement: "The United States will work with Finland and Sweden to remain vigilant against any threats to our shared security, and to deter and confront aggression or the threat of aggression while their bid is considered.

"I warmly welcome and strongly support the historic applications."

Sweden and Finland moved to join NATO in the face of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the only obstacle before their admission seems to be objections of Turkey.

Turkey condemns both country over their supports for terrorist groups.

Turkey had voiced reservations about the membership of Sweden and Finland, saying that the two countries have been acting as safe havens for terrorist organizations, including the PKK and its Syrian wing, the YPG.
