Bingham University Inducts Medical Graduates, Commissions Ne

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bingham University, Karu, Abuja on Thursday  inducted 48 graduate of medicine and surgery from the institution.

The University also commissioned a 38 room 
ultra modern hostel as well as constructed and furnished a 13 room hostel and staff accommodation in Kagoro to comfortably host its staff and students during their community medicine rural posting.

In his brief address at the Physician’s Oath taking ceremony, held at the Bingham Hospital in Jos, the Plateau state capital, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Williams Qurix advised the new Doctors to abide by the rules guiding medical profession.

He charged the inductees to be change agents in the health sector.

"Bingham University received her licence to operate as a private University at a ceremony on the 6th January 2005 from the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian University Commission NUC.

"This historic moment also marks the beginning of the college of Medicine as a pioneer college in Bingham University.

"Since the first induction of 19 medical doctors on the 15th of March 2015, the college has continued to produce high quality graduates in line with her vision to become a world class University in knowledge and skills while inculcating moral and spiritual values."

"A mission to produce graduates that are excellent in knowledge, character and skills for self reliance and on the fear of Christ.

Prof Qurix further added that the Institution has continued to celebrate the excellence in it's students and graduates.

"Our medical students recently won awards in multiple categories at the Annual Medical  Scientific Research Competition held at the University of Lagos.

"Many of our graduates continue to pass their postgraduate primary examinations at first attempt, while one or two have been the highest scoring candidates in the primary examination of the West African College of Physicians."

He disclosed that the university has continued to provide new facilities while renovating and maintaing existing ones.

The Vice Chancellor cautioned the graduands against arrogance and urged them to be humble, diligent to service and respect the Fundamental Human Rights of patients who divulge information to them in secrecy.

The Provost, College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Musa Dankyau who spoke earlier, said the graduands have gone through hard times due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

He urged them to commit themselves to excellent services as a way of paying back to the society through what they have learned.

The Provost urged parents to pray fervently for the newly inducted Medical Doctors to enable them to navigate through the perilous times ahead of them.

The Registrar of Medical and Dentis Commission of Nigeria inducted the 48 Graduands urged them to be dedicated to service and said Nigeria provides quality and efficient medical doctors.

He said any doctor who render services that constitute danger to the profession are shown the way out after trial at the medical tribunal.

Medical Elder, Prof. Jonathan A. Karshima who advised the Graduands urged them to uphold good moral conduct.

He explained that Medical Profession is a call to service to humanity and urged them to exercise their duty with ought most responsibility.

The institution has so far graduated 353 Doctors since the college of medicine was established in 2015.
