Biracial Nigerian Celebrities In Entertainment Industry

The word ‘Biracial’, ‘Multiracial’ or ‘Half-caste’ means people whose heritage comprises of two or more different races. Biracial people are not uncommon in different parts of the world including Nigeria.

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been blessed with celebrities who have dual nationalities. Here are five celebrities you might not know are biracial:

Ramsey Nouah

Ramsey Nouah Tokunbo is a Nigerian actor, director and model who was born to an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother from Ondo state.

Ramsey was born in Lagos on December 19, 1970. He attended Atara Primary School for his primary education and Community Grammar School for his secondary education, both in Surulere. After his secondary education, he obtained a diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos.

Ramsey first considered going into music when he was 20, but he got pushed by his friend to go into acting. His acting career started when he auditioned and got a role in the TV show ‘Fortunes’ which ran from 1993-1994.

In 1996, Ramsey made his major feature film debut in ‘Silent Night’. He has since starred in numerous movies, mostly featuring as the lead role.

He has also worked alongside several Nollywood stars.

 

Eku Edewor

Eku Edewor is a British Nigerian actress, model and television presenter whose full name is Georgina Chloe Eku Edewor-Thorley.

She was born on December 18, 1986, in London alongside her twin sister, Kessiana. Her mother, Juliana Edewor, is an interior designer and art collector from Delta State in Nigeria, while her father, Hugh Thorley, is a British man. Her parents got divorced when she was young and have both remarried.

Eku made her television debut when she competed in ‘Britain’s Next Top Model’ in 2006 under the name ‘Georgina Edewor-Thorley’. Her first job at the entertainment industry was with the producer ‘Damian Jones’ as his personal assistant. She also featured in the television series ‘The Island’ as Sade Coker in 2012.

She attended an open audition for co-presenter on M-NET’s entertainment show, 53 Extra, five months after she returned. Since she got the job, she has hosted several shows including the Pepsi Top Ten Countdown in 2012. Eku also co-hosted the Big Brother Africa All Stars red carpet in 2010.

 

Adunni Ade

Adunni Ade is an award-winning Nollywood actress and fashion model born to a Nigerian father and a German-Irish mother.

She was born on June 7, 1976, in Queens, New York. She holds a degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky.

Prior to switching to the entertainment industry, Adunni worked in the insurance and housing sectors in the United States.

She started acting professionally in 2013 when she featured in the movie ‘Iwo Tabi Emi – You or I’, directed by veteran Nollywood actor, Saidi Balogun.

Adunni has also appeared in some music video for Sound Sultan and Ice Prince.

In 2017, she became the brand ambassador for OUD Majestic. She also received a Stella Award from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism as a way of rewarding her efforts in promoting the Nigerian culture.

 

Daddy Freeze

Ifedayo Lucian Olarinde, popularly known as 'Daddy Freeze’ is a Nigerian-Romanian broadcaster, radio host and leader of the FreeNation movement in Nigeria.

He is also well-known for his open criticism of Christian religious leaders on matters ranging from tithe and their lavish lifestyles.

Daddy Freeze was born on May 6, 1976, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania to a Nigerian father from Oyan Town in Odo-Otin Local Government Area in Osun state and a Romanian mother. For his primary education, he attended International School, Ibadan. He went on to acquire a degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan.

He started out his career as a radio host with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Ibadan in 1996. He moved on to join Cool FM as a Radio Presenter in 2001.  Daddy Freeze has hosted several musical concerts and Nollywood movie premieres not just in Nigeria but in the United Kingdom and Ghana too.

 

Shan George

Shan George is a Nollywood actress, singer, film producer and movie director.

She was born on April 21, 1970, in Ediba, Abi Local Government Area, Cross River state, to a British dad and Nigerian mum. After having her secondary education at Edanafa Secondary Commercial School, Ediba, the actress proceeded to the University of Lagos to study Mass Communication.

While in search of a job to raise money for her tuition fee, she came upon acting. In 1997, Shan George debuted in the Nollywood movie ‘Thorns of Rose’. Before that, she had appeared in ‘Winds of Destiny’, a 1997 soap opera. While in her final year at the university, she produced her debut movie ‘All for Winnie’.

As a musician, she dropped her debut studio album ‘Dance’ in 2010. The album got positive reviews from music critics.

Shan George had her first marriage when she was just 16. She presently has two children from broken marriages.
