Blackout: IBEDC Gives Reasons For Darkness In Ede Town

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has disclosed the reasons why some communities in Ede towns and environs have suffered a shortfall in electricity supply in recent days.

In a statement signed by the IBEDC Osun Region and made available by its spokesperson, Kikelomo Owoeye, the IBEDC revealed that the problem was due to a technical issue on the Ede Township and Cottage 11KV feeders.

The statement also stated that as a result of the shortfall, communities in, Ede township, Oke Gada, Oja Timi, Barracks, Owode, Aisu, Ogberin, and Olori would experience power outages.

IBEDC, Osun region also explained that it could not resolve the fault and ensure power supply is restored due to the closure of its offices by protesting youths in Ede.

On Monday, April 11, 2022, youths under the aegis of the Federation of Ede Youths Development Association (FEYDA) staged a peaceful protest at IBEDC hubs in Ede Township.

According to a message sent to DAILY POST, the FEYDA National President, Abdulazeez Mufutaudeen Idowu revealed that the protesters numbering in their thousands locked up the IBEDC offices at Cottage junction, Oja Timi, Owode Ede, and the Oke Gada Business Hub.

In an earlier announcement made available by the FEYDA media and publicity committee, the youth body accused IBEDC of plunging the ancient town into perpetual darkness.

They also alleged that apart from subjecting the town to darkness, IBEDC personnel still planned the distribution of bills with estimated tariffs around the town starting from Monday, April 11.
