Blasphemy: Banky W Reacts To Ganduje's Comment On Signing Of Singer's Death Warrant

Blasphemy: Banky W Reacts To Ganduje's Comment On Signing Of

Nigerian singer cum politician, Banky W has slammed Kano state governor Abdullahi Ganduje who said he would not waste time signing a death warrant of Sharif Yahya Aminu, the man who was given a death sentence by the Sharia Court for insulting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

AllNews had earlier reported how the 22-year-old singer was sentenced to death by hanging on August 10, by an upper Sharia court in the state after he was found guilty of committing blasphemy in a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March.

Even though the court's verdict was met with several outcries from Nigerians who called for the release of the singer, Ganduje, at a gathering of religious leaders, legal practitioners, security personnel and government officials at the government house Kano on Thursday, said he would sign the warrant in no time.

He said; “The judgment has taken place and the law of the land allows the person convicted to appeal further within 30 days to the High Court and to the Appeal Court and to the Supreme Court as the case may be.

“Should at the end of it the warrant is presented before me, I will not waste time to sign it.

“On the second hand, if he does not appeal within the specified period, I will not spend a minute in signing the death warrant.”

The governor’s comment did not go down well with Banky W, who questioned why the same punishment should be meted out to Ganduje who allegedly stole public funds.

“The Governor signing the death warrant was seen on camera pocketing thousands of dollars in bribes "allegedly"... how come the Sharia penalty of cutting off his hands doesn't apply to him?” the singer tweeted.
