Sharif Yahaya Aminu, the singer who was given a death sentence by the Sharia Court for insulting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has filed an appeal.
AllNews had earlier reported how the 22-year-old singer was sentenced to death by hanging on August 10, by an upper Sharia court in the state after he was found guilty of committing blasphemy in a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March.
Even though the court's verdict was met with several outcries from Nigerians who called for the release of the singer, the state governor Abdullahi Ganduje, at a gathering of religious leaders, legal practitioners, security personnel, and government officials at the government house Kano on Thursday, said he would sign the warrant in no time.
However, in a suit filed at the Kano state high court on Thursday, Sharif-Aminu’s counsel, Kola Alanipini asked the court to set the judgment aside.
