BNXN Denies Spitting On Police Officer

Nigerian singer BNXN (fka Buju) has made a U-turn on his now-deleted tweet where he said he assaulted a policeman by spitting on him.

In a video that made the rounds on Wednesday afternoon, BNXN was seen parked down in an unidentified area of Lagos while involved in an altercation with men of the Nigeria Police Force.

After the video went viral, BNXN took to Twitter to reveal that he spat in a police officer's face and it felt good.

“Spat in a police officer’s face and it felt so good. I let you in my car and you dragged and tear my shirt, and start slapping me? (Sic) Nah, everybody must stop!” the singer had tweeted.

Making a U-Turn in a statement on Thursday afternoon via Twitter, BNXN said his earlier tweet was only an idiomatic expression.

According to him, he meant that he disrespected a police officer not that he literally spat on him.

He explained that the life-threatening situation he was in due to the physical assault meted on him by some policemen caused him to lash out.

BNXN, however, said that he just wants to focus on his music, which is what is important to him.

“My since-deleted tweet stating that I spat in a police officer's face was an idiomatic expression to say I disrespected a police officer to his face and not the literal way people may have taken it on social media. I do not support violence or abuse against the police in any form.

“Yesterday I was in a life-threatening situation which caused me to lash out due to the physical assault on me by some policemen who have now been brought to book.

"However, I just want to focus on what’s important to me, my music. Thank you for all the love and concern.

“I stood on my right as a responsible Nigerian, despite the violence against my person and I do not want my deleted tweet to be taken seriously.

“I appreciate the swift intervention of some reputable police officers on this matter too. Love,” BNXN tweeted.
