The Borno State Scholarship Board has cautioned students in the state about a fake online scholarship advert urging students to apply for local and foreign scholarships.

Executive Secretary of the board, Mallam Bala Isa, who spoke with newsmen on the development on Wednesday in Maiduguri, described the advert claiming to be from the board as fake and fraudulent.

“This advert is not from Borno State Scholarship Board and we are advising students in the state to disregard it.

“The board has disassociated itself from the advert and is advising the people of Borno, especially students, to disregard such information and always liaise with the board on any information on scholarships.

“The board wishes to use this medium to notify students that the board will formally inform them to apply at the appropriate time and through an appropriate link,” he said.

Isa said that the board was currently updating its portal, a situation which, he said, had caused the current delay in enrolment of students.

“When I came on board, I found out that the portal needed an update. There are so many problems associated with the portal that have even affected the enrollment of students into the 2020/2021 scholarship award.

“In order to avoid all these problems, we invited a company to update the website as well as the portal for us so that we can bring genuine students on board,” he added.
