Boat mishap
No fewer than 26 persons including women and children have lost their lives in a boat mishap on the Sokoto River.
Out of the 26 persons, 21 women and 5 children drowned in the Shagari river in the Shagari local government area of Sokoto state.
Disclosing the unfortunate event to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, the Chairman of Shagari LGA, Alhaji Aliyu Dantani said the incident took place on Tuesday evening.
Dantani stated that the rescue mission is still ongoing in the river.
He further stated that the actual number of those on the boat could not be ascertained.
He added that local divers are working to rescue survivors or recover bodies from the river.
