The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has expressed that the controversy trailing Boko Haram surrender should not hold water.

Lawan said rather than rejection, the surrender should be seen as a development to end the insurgency.

This was made known by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi in a statement.

Awoniyi said Lawan made the declaration at the Shehu of Borno's Palace in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, on Monday.

The Senate President was in Maiduguri on a condolence visit to HRH. Abubakar El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, the former foreign affairs minister.

The condolence was over the death of the former Minister's mother-in-law.

However, Lawan explained that the repentant insurgents who do not have issues should be reintegrated into society after rehabilitation.

He further stated that those with problems should go through the legal processes.
