The Lagos State Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, has filed a one-count charge of unlawful killing against suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, for the murder of Bolanle Raheem.
Raheem, a lawyer living in Lagos, was shot and killed by Vandi on Christmas day in a case that has rattled the entire country.
The murder charge was filed on Friday at the magistrate’s court sitting in Yaba and the trigger-happy policeman was brought before Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun who remanded him in custody.
“That you ASP DRAMBI VANDI (M) on the 25th day of December 2022 at Ajah Round About along Lekki-Epe Express Way, Lagos within the Lagos State Magisterial District unlawfully killed one OMOBOLANLE RAHEEM (F) by shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17 Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” the charge sheet reads.
Vandi's suspension was announced on Thursday by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani, on Thursday in Abuja.
It was also revealed that the suspension is with immediate effect.
