Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has been named among the nominees for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season following a fantastic 2023/2024 season for German champions  Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite being out of action for a few months through injury, the Nigerian has been one of the Bundesliga's brightest prospects and has been acknowledged as the Germans aim to go unbeaten in all competitions.

The Bundesliga champions have gone 50 games unbeaten in all competitions and could have two more laurels to their cabinet after winning the domestic title to end an 11-year dominance of Bayern Munich.

Boniface is nominated alongside Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen, who has done well for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club in January, RB Leipzig Xavi Simons, also on loan from PSG and Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier.

Boniface won the monthly version of the award on four occasions in August, September, October and November 2023 respectively after seven goals and five assists in his first 12 games.

The massively built striker was in contention for the Golden Boot earlier on in the campaign alongside VfB Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy and Harry Kane.

Boniface was left out of Nigeria's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad with one kick to the start of the tournament with an injury setback.
