Rauf Aregbesola
The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has called for community involvement in the surveillance of all the country's borders.
Aregbesola said involving community leaders in border management would help to strengthen the security of the area.
The Minister made this known when he was featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum in Abuja.
He noted that the bordering communities have the patriotic responsibility to curb the influx of criminals into the country alongside other federal government agencies involved in border control.
While reacting to illegal activities of transnationals across the country's borders, he said the government was doing its best to check such activities.
“We are at it, we are mobilising our men to be at the border as we are improving on border surveillance amongst others.
“But that can’t be enough, I want Nigerians to really understand what it is that in terms of space we will be one of the first three big nations in Africa.
“What that tells you is that it is not possible for you to have enough men that will man every inch, centimetre or millimetre of the border line."
