Borno: Babakura Imam Regains Freedom From Boko Haram Captivi

A former photojournalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and staff of International Rescue Committee (IRC), Alkali Babakura Imam has regained freedom from Boko Haram captivity. 

Imam was abducted by the ISWAP faction of Boko Haram terrorists on 10th March, 2022 when they attacked Monguno. 

Vanguard reports that Imam regained his freedom yesterday (Tuesday) evening, adding that he is hale and hearty. 

A family member who was excited over his release said: “After spending 174 days in captivity, the Senior Area Manager with IRC had finally regained his freedom.”

According to a security source who pleaded anonymity, Imam is currently in their custody before reuniting him with his family.

“He is currently in our office here in Maiduguri undergoing some debriefing and medical check up before he would be rejoined with his family later."
