The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has disclosed that 18,406 persons have been displaced by floods across the state.
While disclosing to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Director-General of the agency, Yabawa Kolo said the victims, including women and children were from fourteen local government areas of the state.
She stated that the areas affected include Shani, Kwaya Kusar, Biu, Damboa, Askira Uba, Chibok, Kaga, Dikwa, Maiduguri, Monguno, Jere, Mobbar, Gwoza, Monguno and Kala Balge among others.
According to her: “Reports from international partners in different fields and locations indicated that a total of 4,989 houses were destroyed and 16,393 victims affected.
“This prompted SEMA to conduct rapid independent assessment to ascertain actual level of damage.
“Most of the displaced persons are seeking shelter in primary schools in neighbouring communities. They are now in need of shelter kits, mats, blankets and food items."
Recall that AllNews reported that Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum had inaugurated a committee headed by his Deputy, Alhaji Usman Kadafur to assess level of damages caused by the floods in the state and support victims.
The Director-General of the agency further stated that the deputy governor had been working to support victims of the flood.
