Borno governor approves N400 million scholarship for indigen

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the sum of over N400 million to indigent nursing students.

The full scholarship was for nursing students studying at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) School of Nursing. 

The Governor also approved the scholarship payment of second-year registration fees for indigent students studying at the Suez University Egypt.

The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Malam Bala Isa made the disclosure on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

"Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has released the sum of Four Hundred Million, Five Hundred and Six Thousand, One Hundred and Forty Naira (N400,506,140) for the payment of:

"Registration fees for 93 Borno state students admitted into UMTH School of Nursing 

"Registration fees of 19 Borno state students Studying at Suez University Egypt," Isa said.

According to Isa, the governor's gesture was in line with the state's 25-year development plan and 10-year strategic development initiative. 

He also conveyed the governor's message to the students, urging them to study hard to justify the government's efforts.

He assured that Governor Zulum remains committed to the improvement of the education sector in the state. 

On his part, the State's Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Abba Wakilbe, urged the students to study hard and ensure they graduate within their stipulated graduation date.
