Borno NUJ Visits INEC In Maiduguri, Seeks Information Suppor

The leadership of the Borno State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has visited the state's INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mohammed Ibrahim.

Speaking during the visit, the state's NUJ Chairman, Dauda Iliya said the visit was to familiarize himself with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He added that as preparations were still on ahead of the 2023 general elections, the NUJ sought the support of INEC in information sharing.

In his response, INEC REC Ibrahim called for a stronger partnership with the NUJ to deliver a more credible 2023 election.

Ibrahim recalled that journalists play a significant role in the success of the 2019 general elections.

He stressed that with the record achieved in the previous election, the journalists were expected to do more in 2023.

"We know your capacity and know what you can do. Be the vanguard of promoting our case.

"We are preparing to present Nigerians with the best election ever and as critical stakeholders, we must work together for a free, fair and credible election."

Ibrahim further explained that the new Electoral Act has encouraged the use of technology to simplify the 2023 election by INEC, making it different from the previous elections.

He explained that the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will facilitate the transmission of election results to the INEC server electronically.

He further nodded in support of training journalists on the election as requested by the NUJ.

He added that the commission was expecting the supply more Permanent Voter Cards for those that recently registered.
