Boy Spyce Recounts How He Got SIgned To Don Jazzy's Record L

Boy Spyce is the latest act to join Don Jazzy-owned 'Mavins Record' family which includes singers like Rema, Ayra Starr, Ruger, Ladipoe and Magixx.

Speaking on how the contract came to be, Boy Spyce revealed that Don Jazzy sent him a message in 2019 on a very special day — Christmas day.

According to the singer, the day was significant to him because he did not have Christmas cloth and was angry at his parents for their inability to provide him with an outfit to hang out with his friends.

Boy Spyce“I've always had this feeling that I will be signed to Mavins,” Boy Spyce said.

“I don't know how I don't know when but I've always had the feeling.

"Jazzy messaged me on a very special day. On Christmas day, 2019, I will never forget.

“Christmas morning, I had no Christmas cloth and I was angry with my parents coz I didn't understand that there was no money.

"I just wanted to go out with my friends so I was sad.”

According to Boy Spyce, born Ugbekile David Osemeke, he initially assumed Don Jazzy's message was from a parody account until he spotted the verified badge.

“I just got a message from Jazzy. The message didn't even look like what would come from him.

"He gave me this hands-raised emoji and I was like 'wait, it's all these fake accounts'.

"I checked and saw the verified badge.

"I screamed I couldn't believe my eyes. I actually cried that morning and my mom prayed for me.

“We linked up in the studio, I joined the academy and I started recording. I'm planning on how to take over the world.”

Mavins Record unveiled the artist on April 14, along with his eponymous EP.

“Being a tunnel with which a talent is being nurtured is a blessing I would never take for granted,” Don Jazzy said in his announcement.

“After being trained in the Mavin Academy by the best in the game, world please help us welcome and follow the newest addition to the Mavin Records family.”

Don Jazzy applauded Boy Spyce and the Mavin team for being patient at a time when “most people are just looking for one quick viral moment instead of going through proper artist development.”

“We could have rushed and activated prematurely when he had this moment but he showed great restraint and chose to stick to his training.

"He has been recording judiciously since I first messaged him on Christmas Day 2019,” the veteran producer said.
