Brazil Records 1,349 COVID-19 Deaths In 24 Hours

The Brazilian Health Ministry recorded 1,349 COVID-19 deaths within the space of 24 hours.

The total number of fatalities in Brazil has hit 32,548, with the number of infections reaching 585,016, making it the second-highest after the US.

Medical experts say that the actual number of cases in the country could be higher than what is reported, as the country has conducted very few tests.

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro has criticised the isolation measures in the country even in the face of high numbers of infections and deaths.

The president has continuously stated the importance of keeping the wheel of the economy going, with his posse agitating for the removal of the stay-at-home order in states across the country.

Bolsonaro has, numerous times, expressed his support for the use of hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of the virus, describing the coronavirus to a "little flu."

Two health ministers have resigned over differences on how to handle the outbreak, with the last health minister disagreeing with the president's decision to use the aforementioned drug.
