EFCC detains Sirika over N8 billion Nigeria Air scandal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained Hadi Sirika, the former aviation minister, in connection with an alleged N8 billion misappropriation related to the failed Nigeria Air project.

Sirika was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into money laundering involving N8,069,176,864.00, Allnews.ng has learned.

Sirika appeared at the EFCC's Federal Capital Territory Command at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

In early February, Allnews.ng reported that EFCC operatives arrested Abubakar Ahmad Sirika over alleged money laundering preferred against his elder brother and former Aviation minister, Hadi Sirika.

Abubakar was said to have been arrested by the operatives of the anti-graft agency on Sunday, February 4 over an investigation of the Aviation Ministry.

While in office as minister, Sirika is accused of conspiracy, abuse of office, diversion of public funds, contract inflation, criminal breach of trust and money laundering amounting to N8,069,176,864.

According to the Commission, the sum is for four aviation contracts from the former minister to a company known as Engirios Nigeria Limited, owned by his younger brother.

The EFCC further said that apart from being listed as the company’s MD/CEO, Abubakar is the sole signatory to the company’s two accounts, domiciled in Zenith and Union banks.
