Herdsmen believed to be Fulani Bororo have sacked a farming community in Iyemero-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The attack, a source in the community said, took place late on Friday night and left many members of the community injured.
”All the people attacked are hospitalised at Itapaji Health Centre. Many of them had their heads broken and some of them received machete cuts", the source said.
The source added that farmers are currently abandoning their farms and are running away for fear of attacks.
”People are running away from their farms and abandoning their plots. Families are leaving and those who have chosen to remain are living in fear.
”Farm hands have abandoned their duties in the farms for fear of attacks by the Bororo Fulani."
"A retired military officer was kidnapped in December last year on the way to the farm. Also, a bread seller in the community was abducted early this year, in January to be precise, while another man was kidnapped in February.
”There have been three incidents of kidnapping in three months in that farm settlement and the community is in serious fear.
”People are packing their load and are leaving. The Fulani want to turn that place into their habitat after they have driven away everybody", another source shared.
