Sinner beats Hurkacz, wins Halle Open title

The year 2024 continues to be a brilliant one for Italian Jannik Sinner as he beat Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 5 seed, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2) to lift the Halle Open trophy at the Owl Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Top seed Sinner, currently ranked No 1 by ATP, defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2), Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3), German Jan-Lennard Struff (6-2, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (3)) and Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (6-4, 7-6 (3)).

Hurkacz, ranked No 9, beat Italian Flavio Cobolli (7-5, 7-6 (2)), Australian qualifier James Duckworth (7-6 (3), 6-4), American Marcos Giron (7-6 (5), 6-4) and German Alexander Zverev, the second seed (7-6 (2), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Halle tournament.

Sinner is the current Australian Open men's champion and reached the semifinals of the French Open.
