British, French Officials Face Legal Action As Boat Accident Kills 27

British and French officials are facing legal actions over their failure to act when a boat sank and led to the deaths of 27 persons last month.

A charity supporting displaced people in France complained to the French courts on Friday, accusing the director of the UK coastguards, the French maritime chief and the director of the French regional coastguard of manslaughter and failing to help people in need.

27 people died in the accident after a boat capsized on November 27. It was confirmed that the majority of the deceased were from Iraqi, Afghanistan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and Somalia.

According to testimonies from the only 2 survivors, it was claimed that distress calls were made to the French and English rescue services.

The charity said it hoped that the charges would shed light on the case, adding that transparency and truth are required for the victims and their families.
