Britney Spears, Lawyers Officially File To End Conservatorship

Britney Spears, Lawyers Officially File To End Conservatorsh

Britney Spears and her attorney, Matt Rosengart, have asked for her 13-year conservatorship to be lifted before the end of the year.

TMZ reports that the American diva and her legal team submitted court documents requesting for the conservatorship to be lifted immediately, citing her father Jamie Spears' earlier request.

Spears' team claims in the documents that the conservatorship 'no longer serves a valid purpose.'

The singer's team is also requesting that her father's application to be removed as conservator be granted, claiming that if he is in control for any longer, he will 'impede' his daughter's well-being.

Rosengart agreed with Jamie that no more medical examination is required to end the situation.

Spears' ability to exhibit "capacity and capability to choose, engage, and instruct counsel of her own choice" is a sign she no longer requires conservatorship, according to the attorney.

'If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should given that chance,' he writes in his documents.

Britney is now asking for the creation of a "termination plan" to allow her to exit the conservatorship. A hearing to remove Jamie from the conservatorship will be held next week.

Mr. Spears must now go, according to Rosengart, who claims he has unfairly profited millions from his daughter despite having little commercial experience and a terrible personal finance past.

The attorney wants a judge to appoint a professional conservator of her estate on a temporary basis while they figure out how to entirely stop the conservatorship.

He went on to state that he hopes to put an end to "the Kafkaesque nightmare forced upon [Spears] by her father in order to restore her dignity and essential liberties."

He also stated that Britney's family lawyers were working on a prenuptial agreement for her and her new fiancé, Sam Asghari.

According to Page Six, Rosengart hopes Mr. Spears will be removed from the pre-nuptial agreement before it is finalized, claiming that his relationship with his daughter is "broken" and that his presence would "impede the ability to negotiate and consummate a contract that all can agree is in Ms. Spears' best interests."

The fresh legal moves come only a day after a teaser for a shocking new Netflix series revealed that the singer had requested the end of her conservatorship in 2009.
