Buhari Appoints Kebbi First Lady As Member Of HILAC

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the First Lady of Kebbi State, Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu as a member of the High-Level Advisory Committee (HILAC).

While reacting to the appointment on Tuesday, Bagudu said: "This scale up will not only support financial independence to women across Nigeria but has a positive impact on other sectors like health and education."

She added that the step up by Buhari was a breakthrough for the much-needed gender and adolescent inclusion in the society.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser to Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State.

According to the statement, the First Lady said members of the HILAC were drawn from various sectors with the expectation of their support for three programmes. 

She listed the programmes as the "National Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE), Adolescent Girls' Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) and Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP-SU)."

He said: "Kebbi State is one of the beneficiary pilot states of the NFWP-SU," adding that "It was very successful."

Bagudu further stated that no fewer than 70,000 women have benefited from Nigeria For Women Project in the state.

She explained, "All the women were each given N60,000 as start-up grants to establish their various businesses."
