Buhari Backs Embattled AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina

President Muhammadu Buhari has thrown his weight behind the embattled President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina. 

The United States Government had called for an independent probe following a series of allegations made against Adesina.

Adesina has been accused of using his position as AfDB President for private gain and other unethical conduct.

However, President Buhari on Tuesday drummed support for Adesina, who is seeking a second term as the president of the biggest lender in Africa.

In a tweet by the official handle of the President, Buhari said that Nigerians are solidly behind Adesina in his reelection bid. 

The tweet reads: "Nigeria stands solidly behind  @akin_adesina in his re-election bid as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). We will work with all leaders, and stakeholders in AfDB, to ensure that he re-elected, on the strength of his achievements during this first term.
