Buhari Okays AIG Adeyanju For ICPC Commissioner, Seeks Senat

ICPC

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the screening of AIG Olugbenga Adeyanju (rtd) at the Senate for the position of ICPC commissioner.

The president requested the Senate in a letter dated February 9, 2022, and addressed it to the Senate president, Ahmed Lawan.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare made the letter available to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja.

The letter read that Adeyanju who hails from Ekiti State should be screened and confirmed as the Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The president stated that his nomination was in line with the provisions of Section 3 (3) (a) of the Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Act 2000 Cap. C31 Laws of the Federation 2004.

The provision states that there must be someone not below the rank of a Commissioner of police as part of the ICPC.

The president's nomination comes after his initial nomination of Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade suffered rejection.

Buhari had in September 2021 requested for her confirmation but the upper chamber denied it because of the provisions in the Act.

The president however appointed her commissioner in the National Salaries and Wages Commission having passed senate screening and fulfilled the requirements for the position.
