Buhari's Visit To Maiduguri Met With Loud Booing

Buhari's Visit To Maiduguri Met With Loud Booing

After the president's touch down in Maiduguri on a condolence visit to the site of carnage, where the Boko Haram insurgents killed 30 travelers unable to get through the gates into the Borno State Capital, his convoy drove from the airport to the center of the city and were met with loud booing from the people.

Traditional rulers who were present at the airport to receive the president did not get a handshake, as opposed to his other visits to the state where his presence was met with fanfare.

Borno State, in the last presidential election saw the most voters for Buhari, getting 836,496 votes of the 955,205 votes cast, marking an 85% margin, which saw his opponent, Atiku Abubakar raking in some 71,788 votes.

During his trip into the city, residents of the states came out in their numbers to express their displeasure in the way the president was handling the scourge that is Boko Haram, chanting in Hausa, Bama so! Bamayi!, which translates in English to, "We do not want," "We are not interested."

These chants of exasperation come off the back of the many attacks on the city, especially the attack that happened before the president's visit where 30 people were burned to death by the Boko Haram terrorists.

Buhari, recently, in an op-ed in a US magazine said that ever since he took office in 2015, the canker that is Boko Haram, has been mitigated by security forces, dismissing the realities of the North-Easterners, especially those living in Borno State.
