Buhari Warns Governors Against Rewarding Bandits

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned all State Governors on the dangers of rewarding armed bandits, stating that such policies can be disastrous.

Buhari who made this known through his Senior Special Assistants, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said state governors must also review their policies and be proactive in improving security in and around schools.

Recall that the Governor of Katsina state, Bello Aminu Masari and Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle are known to have negotiated peace deals with the bandits.

According to Garba Shehu, "the President appealed to state governments "to review their policy of rewarding bandits with money and vehicles, warning that the policy might boomerang disastrously."

“Such a policy has the potential to backfire with disastrous consequences. States and Local Governments must also play their part by being proactive in improving security in & around schools.”

He also advised states and local governments to be more proactive by improving security around schools and their surroundings.

“Let bandits, kidnappers and terrorists not entertain any illusions that they are more powerful than the government. They shouldn’t mistake our restraint for the humanitarian goals of protecting innocent lives as a weakness or a sign of fear or irresolution,” he added.

AllNews had reported that armed bandits had recently kidnapped 317 female students at the Girls Secondary School, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
