Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt was the hero for Bayern Munich on Saturday, producing a crucial goal-line clearance before scoring himself to help his team reclaim the Bundesliga lead from Borussia Dortmund in a 2-1 win at Stuttgart.

De Ligt's moment of magic came late in the first half, just after he prevented Stuttgart from going ahead. His heroics on the goal-line kept the score level, and a minute later, he put Bayern in front by blasting a low shot under the goalkeeper from outside the box.

But the drama didn't end there. Bayern doubled their lead midway through the second half, thanks to former PSG striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. And just when it seemed like the game was all but over, Stuttgart pulled one back late on through Juan Jose Perea, setting up a tense finish.

French winger Tanguy Coulibaly had a chance to equalize in injury time when he jumped high to head a cross, but his effort went just wide, leaving Bayern to hold on for the win.

It was a crucial victory for Bayern, who now go back above Dortmund on goal difference ahead of their Champions League last-16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. And for De Ligt, it was a memorable day, with his goal-line clearance and goal securing the win for his team.
