Bundesliga: Gladbach Becomes Bayern's 'Achilles Heel' In 3-2

Jonas Hoffman

Borussia Moenchengladbach secured a crucial victory against ten-man Bayern Munich, beating the league leaders 3-2 in a stunning Bundesliga match on Saturday.

The result means that Bayern now holds only a one-point lead over second-placed Union Berlin, after their second league defeat of the season.

The game started in dramatic fashion, with Bayern's Dayot Upamecano being sent off in the eighth minute for bringing down Alassane Plea outside the box.

The early setback did not deter Bayern, who managed to equalize in the 35th minute, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring his eighth league goal this season after a brilliant run by Alphonso Davies.

Despite coming close to taking the lead in the first half, Gladbach continued their pressure in the second half, with Jonas Hofmann scoring a fantastic goal in the 55th minute after outplaying the outnumbered Bayern defence.

Substitute Marcus Thuram made sure of the three points, finishing off an almost identical move down the right before Mathys Tel pulled a goal back for Bayern in added time.

Borussia Moenchengladbach has now extended their unbeaten run against Bayern to a club record five straight games in all competitions, with 10 wins against the reigning champions since the 2011/12 season. No other Bundesliga club has more than five in the same period.

Bayern's lead at the top of the table is now under threat, and the team will need to bounce back quickly to avoid losing their position. Meanwhile, Moenchengladbach's victory sees them climb to eighth place on 29 points.

Alphonso Davies Sprints Down the Wing with Dazzling Speed

One of the standout moments of the match was Alphonso Davies' 35th-minute run that led to Bayern's first goal. Davies received the ball on the left wing and then sprinted past several Gladbach defenders with incredible pace. He then cut back to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. The goal was a perfect demonstration of Davies' electrifying speed and attacking abilities.

Gladbach Continues to be Bayern's Bogeyman Team

Borussia Moenchengladbach has proven to be Bayern Munich's bogeyman team in the Bundesliga. The reigning champions have now lost to Gladbach 10 times since the 2011/12 season, while no other Bundesliga club has more than five wins against Bayern in the same period.

Gladbach has now extended their unbeaten run against Bayern to five straight games in all competitions, making them one of the few teams to pose a serious challenge to Bayern's dominance in German football.
