The German Bundesliga confirmed on Friday that the new campaign for 2020-21 season will start on September 18 with the January winter break shrunk to a fortnight amid a series of changes forced by the coronavirus pandemic.
The league was due to start August 21 before the coronavirus enforced lockdown since the restart the Bundesliga was wrapped up and Bayern Munich became the Champions of Germany behind them are Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig, and Monchengladbach for the UEFA Champions League and Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim for the Europa League spot.
The UEFA champions league is still on with Bayern playing Chelsea at the Allianz Arena on August 8.
AllNews understands that players in the Bundesliga sides such as Bayern Munich and Leipzig who are still participating in the Champions league have had enough time to rest and might be fresher or less energetic to play against players from other leagues who are still playing till dates such as English Premier League or La Liga.
With the Bundesliga set to start on September 18 that is approximately 5 weeks after the Champions League final which is scheduled for August 23rd. If any Bundesliga team was to reach the final they will have just 5 weeks before they get back to action in the German League.
