Governor Mai Mala Buni
The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has launched the first Council on Health meeting in Damaturu, the state's capital.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana expressed optimism that the council meeting will aid the state in achieving Universal Healthcare coverage within the shortest time possible.
Buni said his administration has recorded tremendous success in attainment of its goals of establishing a functional primary Health Care Center in each of the 178 wards in the state.
The governor also commended the state actors on the recent award which was received by National Primary Health Care Development Agency in which Yobe state was adjudged as the most improved state in routine immunization in the whole country.
This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson to the deputy governor, Hussaini Mai Suleh.
According to the statement, Buni applauded staff and leadership of the state's ministry of health and Primary Healthcare Board for "the provision of qualitative, preventive, and curatiive services at all levels of health care to the people of Yobe State".
He further called on the participants of the council meeting to come up with ideas and recommendations for the improvement of healthcare in the state.
Earlier speaking, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr Mohammad Lawan Gana said the meeting originated from the National council on health resolution which is the highest policy and decision making body in matters regarding health in the country.
He noted that with the support of the Buni-led administration, the state's health sector has been placed top amongst other states in the country.
Also in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alh Adamu Tella Zimbo explained: "The State Council on Health will not only feature the lead presentation on the theme and sub- theme but also presentations and considerations of memorandum that would cover a wide array of topics and thematic areas that will shape the policies and programmes to be implemented for the continues improvement of the heath sector."
